Probably it's fine to make the adjustments and it shouldn't cause any long term problems to the neck. Since you're concerned about its value as a collectable, I would take it to the best luthier I know for a setup and some advice specific to this guitar.

I don't think 13s will be a problem.

no
its a nice guitar but its never going to be worth shed-loads even in showroom condition.
play it - enjoy it.

You need to adjust the rod, to keep the neck straight no matter what gauge you put on it. A little relief is cool, but you shouldn't leave any large amount of bow in it. Necks warp faster if they are left with too much bow in them, and if it isn't corrected for a long time, it may not straighten out correctly when you finally do try to take the bow out.

i would like to thank everybody for the input i went ahead and made the adjustments to the truss rod i went online and found that fender has some great advice i.e. how to do it right i read the chapter a couple of times to make sure i understood exactaly what and how to do it im very happy with the results it sounds aaaaaaaaaaaawesome i can finally play slide guitar i couldnt do it with light gauge strings i would not recommend to novice to mess with their truss rod im a skilled craftsman my degree is in gunsmithing rifles ,and guitars are very simalar as far as there is not any margin for error so it was and is important to me to know i did everything by the book so to speak thanks agian everybody and i look forward to hearing from you all jimmy p.s. sorry i dont use punct.
