Hey I am gonna buy a new acoustic this year and was wondering what is worth looking into. First off, I have about $1,200 to spend on one. I am going to look at Blue Ridge, Washburn, Traynor, Martin, and Gibson, any others that I should look at? I want a dreadnought size, cut away, electronics, wood bridge is a must, preferably ebony, bone nut, and great sounding. I am picky when it comes to acoustics, my dad has a Jasmine, and I hate it, crappy guitar. Anyways advice would be appreciated thanks.

Yes, to the above, plus try some Martins, such as the Custom Classics and the new D1. I'm a big fan of the Epi Masterbilts, but try out as many as you can and see what sounds good and feels good to you.

Thanks guys. I know a guy who has a completely custom Yamaha acoustic and it is freaking awesome. I want to try one of them. I have heard some rough things about Takamine though. My cousin has one, it sound fantastic, but it is also 1700 bucks. I have been told that the lower priced Taks are not nearly as good. Correct me if I am wrong please, because I am thinking of not buying a Tak.

I think with the Takamine guitars, you get what you pay for. The Jasmine line is for beginners, inexpensive with sound to match. Once you get into the solid topped and all solid wood guitars, they are fine instruments. The new all solid wood Glen Frey model might make it into your price range. Check it out.

Awesome thanks for the info. The Takamines are really nice, but a little expensive. Right now Iam leaning to looking at Yamaha, Martin, Taylor, and Possibly Guild if there is a dealer that carries them around here. Thanks for the info guys.

+1 on that!! I just got a new Art & Lutherie Antique Cedar Burst dread, love it!! And I'd take a Simon & Patrick too (a good friend has a 15 year old one, sounds great) and I love the Larrivee's, they're a runner against Gibson and Martin. Three good "local" choices there!

At least try out an Alvarez-Yairi or two before you buy. My personal favorite maker. Not just Alvarez, though they are pretty nice too, but the Yairi line is fabulous. They are a little pricey new, but used you can get ALOT of guitar for well under your budget.

Ovation maybe, one of my friends has one that he loves to death. I can't say I have had any personal experience though.

Love my Ovation Balladeer. If you're used to playing electric, the Ovation is a very very easy transition.

I am used to playing acoustic as I have played one with thick strings and high action, talk about finger pain. So I am really thinking of a martin. A guy I know has one, I got to play it and wow, it played like a dream.
