I just saw a Fender Acoustic Strat(body of start, acoustic guitar) being sold. It intrigues me, does anyone know anything about this particular instrument?

I believe it is called the Stratocoustic. There is also a Telecoustic.
IMHO they are not that great of acoustic guitars. Laminated tops, plastic back/sides, cheap electronics.
You could do better for the price.

acoustically they are awful
plugged in they are less than average.
aesthetically they are ugly.
the telecoustics however make excellent 'arm-chair' noodlers

I played one about 6 months ago and haven't stopped laughing yet Hard to believe Fender put their name on this piece of junk

i played one of those so called guitars if you want a real thin sounding cigar box sound they are perfect for that i was amazed at how much more sound came out of the telecoustic compared to the stratacoustic that little bit more body mass of the telecoustic was noticeably louder and better sounding than the stratacoustic its noticible when you play them side by side im still in amazement that a few square inches could make that much difference to the over all sound id almost consider getting a telecoustic for a real primative sound like robert johnson or any cigar box type sound it played farly well fender makes a more ptremium stratocoustic if you can find one they are pretty sweet steve winwood played one with eric clapton on this last tour thats what got me interested in them but for a 150 bucks or so they arent half bad def get the telecoustic they sound way better than the straocoustic
